New Feature: Smart Notifications for Nearby Deals

We're excited to announce Smart Notifications — a new feature that alerts you when you're near a shop with an active deal. It's like having a personal shopping radar that only goes off when there's something worth your attention.

How Smart Notifications Work

Smart Notifications use your phone's location services to detect when you enter the vicinity of a shop with a live offer. Here's what happens behind the scenes:

• Grabzo creates virtual zones around shops with active offers
• When you enter a zone (typically 200-500 metres), the system triggers a check
• The algorithm filters for relevance — it considers your past searches, saved shops, and preferred categories
• If there's a strong match, you get a subtle notification with the deal details
• Tap to view the full offer, or dismiss to continue your day

Smart, Not Spammy

Nobody wants a phone buzzing with irrelevant alerts. We've built Smart Notifications with strict anti-spam guardrails:

• Frequency cap: Maximum 3 notifications per day, regardless of how many deal zones you pass through
• Relevance scoring: Only deals that match your preferences trigger notifications
• Cooldown period: You won't get notified about the same shop twice within 48 hours
• Quiet hours: No notifications between 10 PM and 8 AM
• One-tap mute: Instantly silence notifications for any specific shop or category

Privacy First

We take location privacy seriously. Here's how we protect your data:

• Location processing happens on your device — we don't track your movements on our servers
• No location history is stored or shared with anyone
• Shopkeepers never see your location — they only see anonymised redemption data
• You can disable Smart Notifications at any time in Settings → Notifications
• Revoking location permission completely stops all proximity features

Customising Your Alerts

You have full control over what triggers a notification. In the app settings, you can:

• Choose preferred categories (e.g., only Eyewear, Electronics, and Footwear)
• Set a minimum discount threshold (e.g., only notify me for 20%+ off)
• Define your active hours (e.g., only during my evening commute)
• Toggle notifications for saved shops separately
• Set a custom proximity radius (100m to 1km)

For Shopkeepers: What This Means for You

Smart Notifications are a powerful way to attract nearby shoppers who might otherwise walk past your store. The best part? You don't need to do anything extra. If you have active offers on Grabzo, your shop automatically becomes a notification zone.

To maximise your notification visibility, keep your offers fresh and active. Shops with newly created offers get a temporary notification boost, so updating your deals regularly works in your favour.

How to Enable

Smart Notifications are rolling out to all Grabzo users this week. To enable them, update your Grabzo app to the latest version. On first launch after the update, you'll be prompted to opt in. You can always change your preference later in Settings.
